A friend gave me some dying rose bushes that I’ve been trying to save. The first sign of life!
The last picture taken before she died. She looks so tired but her sweetness still shines.
After Kelsey died, I couldn’t write or talk about it but we wanted folks to know. (Mainly so I won’t have to talk to anyone about it.) Sam took this picture when we were working in the field this summer and posted it with the message below. I thought it was perfect:
“I’ll look around until I’ve found someone who laughs like you…I’ll know this love I’m dreaming of won’t be the old love I always knew.” -Billie Holiday
Rest easy, little one. You will be missed.

I sent this picture to Sam with the following text message. Can you tell I was riding the adrenaline train?! “Check out this mother fucker. It was as big as the opening when it spread out and a fucking jumper!! Didn’t even grab the paper to pick it up. Just slid it across the floor and tossed it out the front door. Gross!!”
Gotta be careful harvesting in the am. Some folks are sleeping in.
A gorgeous ombre created with Pampas Plume and Sunday Gold!
A coworker ordered this bouquet for his mom. My best one yet!!

My favorite picture of this one!
I’m brand, spanking new at floral design so each arrangement teaches me something. This one had 2 lessons: 1) Set a timer to work on it. When the timer goes off, stop and leave it. Then return to finish it. AKA Don’t get trapped! 2) Remember the shape you’re trying to create. I was going for an all around view but only viewed from 2 sides while arranging. This created more of a fan shape. Luckily, I had total creative control but what if I needed that circle shape???
Jul 30 - Aug 5
After harvesting a large single stem, I left it growing in the field and it produced these tiny, baby suns! Adorable!
Much more coral/orange than pictured.
Class taught by Rachel Brownlee of Mountain Floral and hosted by Reems Creek Nursery
LOVE handouts!!
Not too happy with my finished project but love that it didn’t take me 3 hours like my first one!!
Sam’s arrangement. I love how unique his is!
Close up on the what I believe is Daucus: Dara but could be a variety of Ammi that I’m not recognizing.
It look like a movie/TV set.
Trying to show the orange-ness of the bloom without much success.

Our CSA pick up is on Wednesdays. Since this Wednesday was the 4th and the tailgate market is the same location as the fireworks display, the market was cancelled. Instead of doing a ton of deliveries, our CSA farm opted to skip a week and add this week onto the end. CSA box pictures will return in the next post.
I volunteered at BOH’s second client’s choice day.
From my Instagram post:
Today, I had the privilege to volunteer at @beacon_of_hope_marshall They rolled out their new client choice model for the food pantry. I helped clients navigate the new system as their personal shopper.
While the option of a pre-packed box is still available, these clients opted to wait longer for the ability to choose their own items. It was interesting how evenly things played out. One client told me how much she disliked the gluten free food while another was elated to use her grain picks on gluten free noodles. One, whose grandmother loves applesauce, for one planning a soup with the canned veggies. With a holiday coming up, everyone was excited about the extra bread!
Moments like this happen when the community pulls together. Big companies (Aldi’s, Ingles, Publix, Walmart) choosing not to throw perfectly good food away. Local farmers and nature schools donating their extra harvest. Individuals giving what they can, both food and time. (Before the pantry opened, we were quickly sorting the blue donation bag from the local food drive so we could restock the shelves as the day went on.) It was beautiful, folks!
So a huge shout out and congratulations to everyone over at the Beacon! All of the hard work and planning yielded amazing results.

A new variety of sunflower that was bred to bloom backwards, highlighting the leaf petal, vs an actual bloom.
While these are growing the best of my single stems, I’m having issues. The ones that we transplanted have shock and have reverted back to their original blooming state. The direct seeded ones are keeping their backwards shape but are very small.
Trying to get used to being in front of the camera. The cosmo is a Double Click: Snow Puff.
So very tall, at least 6 feet! Love these but I need to remember to pinch the first bud. It will lengthen all the other stems and might keep it closer to my level.
120 stems sent to Flourish Flower Farm for a floral design workshop! Led by the amazing Ponderosa and Thyme, right here in Barnardsville at The Never Ending Flower Farm! One day, I hope to actaully attend but I’m so honored my blooms were there!!
